Advance Kine Playwriting with Hawai‘i Poet Laureate Lee A. Tonouchi
WHEN: Consecutive Sundays June 7 - July 19. 8:00am - 11:00am.
There will be no class on Sunday, July 5 due to Fourth of July Weekend.
WHERE: Virtual online class.
Requirements:
You must submit one scene (preferably da first scene) from da full-length play you wanna write or one one-page summary saying what your full length play going be about. Dis going be your writing sample. (Recommended you no already have one finished play. If your play already pau, you gotta be willing for experiment and try make substantial revisions in order for explore various possibilities.)
Class size stay limited. Only da students with da most promising scripts/ideas going be selected for dis advance level class.
Must have internet connectivity as da class going be conducted online using Zoom.
Students can be of any age. Knowing how for write Pidgin stay optional. You no need be from Hawai‘i for sign up.

Course Description:
Advance Kine Playwriting. Sometimes you get one idea for one play, but you dunno how for write 'em. That road to drafting one full-length script can be daunting. But no worry, beef curry, through structured exercises and exploration we go try figgah 'em out. Da goal for dis class is for turn your sample scene into one full-length play. You going be asked for write, re-write, re-write sa'more, share your writing, read, read aloud, give feedbacks and participate in class discussions. Get that idea outta your head and onto papah!
Bio:
Lee A. Tonouchi a.k.a. Da Pidgin Guerrilla taught one college-level creative writing class for several years. He also stay one award-winning Pidgin playwright, poet, and author. His play Oriental Faddah and Son wuz done by da Hawai'i Conservatory of Performing Arts. Da Honolulu Theatre for Youth wen go do his youth play Three Year Swim Club. An'den da East West Players did da adult version which wuz one Los Angeles Times Critic's Choice Selection. His plays Gone Feeshing, Living Pidgin, Da Kine Space, Echoes of Dat Red Guitar, and UchinaAloha wuz produce by Kumu Kahua Theatre. His most recent-est play at Kumu wuz his play adaptation of Two Nails, One Love based on top da brilliant novel by Alden Hayashi.
