Introduction to Improvisation Class
Introduction to Improvisation is a FREE class open to all.
HONOLULU – Calling everyone who is curious about improvisation! This is a series of five workshops culminating in a final performance by the class actors. The spine between all five workshops is to empower actors who are new to improvisation with tools and an expansion of framing how we all look at improv- through the eyes of a playful improviser. They will be introduced to fundamental concepts and ideas that they can carry with them beyond the class. The class will be designed as an introductory improv class; it is not recommended for those who have taken any beginning or intermediate classes before.
This class is limited to 12 students.
The class instructor is Michael Donato. Michael "Donut" Donato is an enthusiastic and passionate part of the theatre community in Honolulu. His improv credits include captain for the Double Improv Rainbows (UHM), director of Cinematik: The Improvised Theater (Late Night Theatre at UHM), and director of Role For It & Role For It: 3.5e (Improvaganza). Currently, he plays with Think Fast Improv, and is a Co-Coach of The Improv Superette; he also runs the Honolulu chapter of the nationwide dinner theatre show, The Dinner Detective. Donut has taught improv as a teaching assistant while at UHM, and has been an instructor with Think Fast Improv and ImprovHI. His improv education comes from working with and/or learning under directly from his seniors, including R Kevin Garcia Doyle, Jonathan Pitts, Shaun Landry, Larissa Nielsen, Aaron Pughes, Matthew Miller, Garrick Paikai, Kimee Balmilero, and Matt Besser.
This class is part of Kumu Kahua’s STAGES (Supporting Theatre Arts-Guidance and Education Series), providing free and low-cost learning opportunities for theatre arts creatives at every stage of experience and adulthood; kupuna registrants are encouraged.
