The Art of the Brawl Beginner Unarmed Stage Combat
This class is offered free of charge, but space is limited!**
When words fail, fists will fly! In this beginner unarmed stage combat class, learn how to safely and convincingly execute falls, slaps, punches, and more, while honing your kinesthetic awareness and physical acting skills. By the end of this class, you will be able to perform a thrilling choreographed fight phrase with a partner! Whether you're looking to enhance your acting skills or simply have fun learning the basics of stage fighting, this class offers the perfect blend of safety, technique, and entertainment. Come ready to move, learn, and most importantly, have a blast!
Course Requirements: Please wear comfortable workout clothes and closed toe shoes. Ages 16+. Please be aware that this is a physical movement class. You must be physically able to lower yourself to the ground and get back up without assistance.
When: 1:30-3:30pm on January 25, February 1, and February 8 (weekly on Sundays)
Where: HPU Theatre space at Aloha Tower Marketplace (across from Lēʻahi Brewing Company)

INSTRUCTOR:
KATHRYN MARIKO LEE is a certified advanced actor combatant
and full instructor with Dueling Arts International, and has over 15 years’
experience performing (and sword fighting) her way through more than 30
shows on the DHT, HSF, and the Hawaii Theatre Center stages. An avid
dancer, singer, and actor, she is currently a lecturer of stage combat for the
Hawaii Conservatory of Performing Arts. She was most notably seen as Polly in The Magic of Poly Amnesia (KKT), Hal in Henry IV (HSF) and Polly Baker in Crazy For You (DHT). Recent fight direction credits include Pagliacci (HOT), Kiss Me Kate (DHT), and Stuck Elevator (HOT).
